DOPPELGANGER

There is no way out.
There must be a way out.
There is no way out.

Tonight I killed a painting, killed it unborn.
Off to purgatory,
And nameless too.
My legs are strong
But my fingers just can't hold on.

Doppelganger got turned around
Hours before dawn.
Petulant, like me, haunting the wrong house again.
Muggy maw behind my left eye,
Slow whining sticky merlot,
The bloom and wail of a fire truck stuck in traffic.

Years ago she told me how she couldn't find her mother anywhere,
but now some lady keeps bothering her.
I refuse to believe it.
Father, not mother, the man of no words.
My sister keeps searching
And telling me quietly, It's okay, go,
You don't have to do this. Go now.

But I must squeak a message through.
He's not here either,
My stunt double's daddy.
Soon it will be just me and you
And boundless ether.
